Vintage lace objects gifted to the artist Eleanor Kotlarik Wang are the primary sources of inspiration for her new work. Artisan lacemakers use motifs of flowers, seeds and other aspects of nature in their creations. Each object begins with one single thread on a bobbin, moving constantly, connecting to other threads to create the forms of the developing work.

In this exhibit, the artist uses painterly lines in her compositions that emulate this craft process starting with one line that meanders the canvas surface. Other lines are introduced which move, weave and dance around each other in a continuous search to connect the layers of activity. Her works are lyrical abstracts that sometimes suggest landscapes, sometimes untamed gardens or serendipitous trails. Other works in the series show the distinct elegant forms of finished lace which have been emboldened with the usage of unexpected bright colors.

The works pay tribute to the craft of lacemaking and the unsung women whose skill and dedication created intricate objects of timeless beauty.z
